November 2018 CFP® Exam Update

December 10, 2018

There has been substantial confusion and miscommunication regarding the release of the official November exam results by CFP Board.

First of all, we want you to know that CFP Board is in the process of releasing the official November exam results. We began releasing results at 4:30 pm Monday, December 10.

We are well aware of the time and effort that goes into sitting for the CFP® exam, the patience it takes to wait for notification, and the frustration some of you experienced from receiving mixed and unclear messages regarding the announcement of the results. We would like to take a moment to explain the circumstances surrounding these recent events.

CFP Board is committed to ensuring that our exam, as well as our certification, is valid, relevant, and legally-defensible.

As you know, the November CFP® exam was the first to include new questions related to the 2017 tax legislation. With this change to some of the content in the exam, we took additional quality assurance steps to ensure the exam was fair and reflected the impact of the new questions. As a part of this process, those taking the exam were given notice that they had completed the exam but were not given the preliminary pass/fail results they normally would receive before leaving the testing center.

CFP Board is aware that some individuals saw results on our testing partner’s website when checking a link that previously indicated exam completion. Those results were not final, as a last quality assurance test had not been completed. This final quality check was completed today, and final results are being processed and released. These results will be emailed to candidates by Prometric and noted in respective CFP Board accounts.

We sincerely apologize to anyone who may have been impacted by this. We are taking this situation very seriously and are addressing the cause internally as well as with our testing partner. We will take precautions to ensure it does not happen again.

Thank you for your pursuit of CFP® certification.
