ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP

Daniel B. Moisand, CFP® is a principal and financial advisor at Moisand, Fitzgerald, Tamayo in Melbourne, Florida and has more than three decades of financial planning and investment experience.

During his career, he has made considerable contributions to CFP Board’s work. For example, from 1999-2001, he served on CFP Board’s Board of Practice Standards, helping to draft and promulgate the first Financial Planning Practice Standards for CFP® professionals. In 2008, Dan served as Chair of CFP Board’s Disciplinary and Ethics Commission, reviewing and taking appropriate action with respect to alleged violations of the ethical and practice standards for CFP® professionals.

He is a past national president of the Financial Planning Association (FPA) and served as a Trustee of the Foundation for Financial Planning from 2014-2019. On behalf of FPA, he has led delegations of financial planners to Russia, China, India and Australia. Dan has been featured as one of America’s top financial planners by at least 10 financial planning publications.

Dan served as the 2023 Chair of CFP Board's Board of Directors. When his term expired on December 31, 2023, CFP Board raised funds to create a scholarship in his name that commemorates his contributions to CFP Board and the financial planning profession: The Dan Moisand, CFP® Scholarship.

The scholarship awards $1,045 per candidate seeking to sit for the CFP® exam and enroll in a CFP® exam review prep course. The award consists of $625 per awardee toward the early registration rate of $825 for the CFP® exam. The scholarship awardee will assume financial responsibility for $200 of the CFP® exam fee during Early Bird registration. The awardee will also be reimbursed for costs incurred up to $420 towards an exam review prep course or study materials of their choosing (e.g., financial calculator, textbooks, flashcards, tutoring).

To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must not be registered to take the July 2024 CFP® exam prior to award being given, must meet eligibility criteria below and successfully complete this application form. CFP Board will award scholarships on a first-come, first-served basis to eligible applicants.

CFP Board will notify awardees that they received the scholarship and will work with them to register for the July 2024 exam with a $625 discount. Only register for the exam after being notified of the award, or you will forfeit the scholarship. This scholarship does not retroactively reimburse exam registrations already paid for before receiving the scholarship.

ELIGIBILITY POLICY REQUIREMENTS

  • Must not be registered for the July 2024 CFP® exam prior to being notified of the award.
  • Must have previously taken the CFP® exam but not yet passed.
  • After being notified of the scholarship award, the awardee must register for the July 2024 CFP® exam by May 14.
  • After receiving the scholarship, must take the complimentary CFP Board Practice Exam by June 25 and provide proof of Practice Exam completion to scholarships@cfpboard.org, or else forfeit the award. Please email your diagnostic score report, provided after the practice exam is done, as proof of completion.
  • Upon registering for the exam, the awardee will have until June 25 to secure an exam seat with Prometric. Failure to secure an exam with Prometric will result in de-registration and postponement of the exam, including a postponement fee of $500 that is not paid for or refundable under this scholarship.
  • Must be a U.S. resident.
  • Must identify as a woman.
  • Must not receive any other scholarships or financial aid toward the July 2024 CFP® exam or exam review prep course/materials (including but not limited to employer funding).
  • Must pass a background check conducted by CFP Board.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Applications will only be accepted through the application form below. Please do not attempt to submit application materials via mail, fax, or email. Pay close attention to the requirements when submitting the application. All fields are required to submit.

AWARD PROCESS

Following the application review, awards will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis to applicants who meet the eligibility requirements and successfully complete the application. After receiving the award, recipients will be provided with instructions for registering for the exam at a discounted rate.

After registering for the exam, the awardee can receive up to a $420 reimbursement towards an exam review prep course or study materials;

  • If enrolling in an exam review prep course for the July 2024 exam, an awardee must provide proof of purchase and course completion by July 17 to receive reimbursement;
  • If purchasing study materials such as textbooks, tutoring services, a financial calculator or flashcards, etc. an awardee must provide proof of purchase by June 1 to receive reimbursement. Materials purchased for a prior exam cannot be included;

As a contingency of the award, candidates agree to take the complimentary CFP Board Practice Exam provided at exam registration by June 25 and provide proof of Practice Exam completion to scholarships@cfpboard.org by June 25 or else forfeit the award. Please email your diagnostic score report, provided after the practice exam is done, as proof of completion.

AWARD DECISION
